Case Information For now the attire can be business casual, meaning a nice shirt and slacks are fine. For each team's 1st presentation after the 1st test, I am expecting you to dress up. The management group is expected to turn in a case going over the conditions involved in the case (the background and summary) and to explain what things they need help in answering/clarifying. The main points of the case as well as the issues facing the compnay and any concerns that management may have should be expressed. Additionally the questions that you wish to have answered should be expressed and developed. (ie explain why "X" is an issue). Typical management papers are from 4-7 pages, but are not limited to 7 pages. Consultants The consultants can start with a brief introduction and review of the case (keeping in mind management knows why you are there!). The consultants should then identify the key points of the case and explain both sides of any discussion, listing alternative courses of action, and finally making a suggestion/recommendation. This will usually involve supporting figures and tables. Consultant papers should be between 5-8 pages (not including appedecies with more being acceptbble.)
Both parties will probably want to use PowerPoint and will have access to a laptop computer. If you want you can bring in other audio/visual tools.
After the presentation there will be a question and answer period where both sides will answer questions from the other side as well as from the audience (of which I will be a part. :-) ) Other teams All other teams are expected to submit a one-page memo. This memo should lay out the case (Summary and idenification of key points and a list of questions (development of questions can be left the management and consultants). After the presentations there will be a question and answer peroiod where you will be expected to participate. Here is an example of a case that was turned in during the fall semester by three of my better students (if you recognize their work don't laugh too hard!). Anyways, this was a bit longer than it probably needed to be, but did cover the main points. I would like you to try to keep them to one page.
On all papers make sure the team name is listed as well as your class meeting time...thanks! |
