Top Ten things to take away from the Franciscan
Business Retreat at Mt. Iraeneus
-
Be inclusive. Francis did this by example. Not only was he
willing to help the lepers and others who were less fortunate, he (and
later his followers) reached out to people of other religion (example Sultan).
-
Just use of resources/Franciscan poverty. here is enough to go around if
everyone takes his/her own share. Franciscan poverty is not the idea
that you have to be poor to be good, rather it says to temper your wealth
and use it for good causes.
-
Treat others as you want to be treated--in business this means all stakeholders
-
Be all you can be--Don't ignore your gifts
-
Competitive advantage – use your skills. It is alright to do what you do
best. That is what you should be doing. You can help people
in a business career as well as a religious vocation.
-
With gifts come responsibilities. To whom much is given, much is expected
-
Think long-term
-
Being in business is OK!
-
It is OK to make money, just do so in a fair manner and do not take unfair
advantage of others
-
Franciscanism is principle based, there are no checklists of do's and don'ts.
Checklists allow for loopholes. Be principle based. Be your best
in all areas.
