Dear Alumni;
St. Bonaventure University is taking
on a community-wide service effort to help the victims of Hurricane
Katrina. Led by Students in Free
Enterprise (SIFE), Finance Club, Alpha Phi Omega, and University Ministries,
the trip will take place over the spring mid-term break (March 4-12, 2006) and
you are invited! Yes, you are invited!
While the exact details are still
being worked out, we will be going to south Mississippi to work with Handson and other
organizations in Hancock, Harrison, and Jefferson counties. This area includes the
cities of Biloxi, Waveland, Bay St. Louis and Pass Christian. While it has not received the
media coverage of New Orleans, this was Ground Zero for Hurricane
Katrina and the destruction is catastrophic but largely indescribable. To gauge
this destruction and to arrange contacts in the area, a group of us went during
the fall mid-term break. Pictures and video of that trip are available at our
Web site at FinanceProfessor.com.
How can you be involved and help out
this service project that shows Franciscan values at their finest? If you are in the WNY area, we will be taking
buses from St. Bonaventure at a cost of $250 per person for the entire week
(cost includes food). Alternatively, you
can meet us in Mississippi (airport transportation will be
provided) for either the whole week or a portion of it.
There is plenty of work for people
of all walks of life. We will be gutting
houses, cleaning homes, cutting trees, and unloading trucks, but we will also
be cooking, distributing food, meeting with victims, and helping out at animal
shelters. While the work is hard, it is
also rewarding and fun! The victims are
remarkably thankful for the help and the feeling of accomplishment is something
that money can not buy. So, please
contact your friends and other alumni and plan for a spring break that you will
never forget!
For more information, please check
out our Web site at FinanceProfessor.com.
Additionally, we have put together
brochures, flyers, and a DVD that can be mailed to you.
To reserve a place for the trip or
for more information, please contact either of us.
Sincerely,
Cassandra Pirdy
