The service trip is open to people from all walks of life, you need no affliliation with St. Bonaventure University.  Ideally, we get enough people from the Western New York/Northeastern Pennsylvania area that we need to rent extra buses from each surrounding town!

Across Louisiana and Mississippi millions of people were hurt by Hurricane Katrina.  Many of these people feel that the rest of the nation has forgotten them. Let's show them that we have not forgotten them!  Indeed, we will help them!

Many of the people have lost everything:  their homes, their jobs, and their belongings.  While we can not do it all, we can do some.  And we should what we can. We will be working with various agencies across the region and there will be work for people of all ages and abilities.  Don't hesitate coming just because you may not be able to haul trash from houses or put up "dry wall".  We will also need people to cook, walk dogs, clean, and even to just listen to what the survivors have to say.   And of course if you have a car or van there, we will need people to go to and from job sites as well as to and from the airport.  So there is work for everyone!
there is much work to do! The cost for the trip for non-Bonaventure students is $250.  This is just below the cost to us of the trip.  Fund raising is expected to make up the difference. As the pictures show, there is much work to be done!

Some questions that are especially relevant to community volunteers

  1. How are we getting there?  Buses will be leaving from St.Bonaventure University the evening of March 3, 2006 and returning to Olean on the 12th. Alternatively, if you meet us there, we hope to be able to pick people up daily at the Gulfport-Biloxi airport.
  2. What if I can not be there for the entire week?  No problem.  If you can be there for even a few days you will make a big difference.
  3. Isn't this just for college students?  ABSOLUTELY NOT!  We will be working with people of all ages.
  4. Where will we be sleeping?  Most people will be sleeping in church halls or large (circus sized) tents set up for volunteers.
