Students:  You will make up the bulk of this trip.  We would love to see 10% of the total Bonas Enrollment going on the trip.  The trip is being led by students and in many ways for students.  So by all means come!  It very well might be the best $150 you ever spend!

Student leaders:  Christine Francis, Sean Lynch, Meghan Backus, Bridget Hurley, Cassandra Pirdy, Anne Werner, Karyn Wolfe

Faculty leaders: Jim Mahar, Todd Palmer

Facebook: Check out group on Facebook for our group!

Costs-- About $150 per student.  Why is this so cheap?  We will be working with groups that allow us to stay and eat for free.  This saves us much money.  Further we have shopped around for the cheapest bus fares possible.  This is about $250 per person.  The Journey Project has been very generous with a multi-thousand dollar grant to subsidize the trip for current Bonaventure students.

Dates--  The buses will leave SBU after classes on March 3, 2005.  We will return to campus on Sunday March 12, 2005.

There is an information meeting on January 18th and January 25th.  Money will be due by January 25th.

There will be several meetings after the signups for training and learning more about what we will be doing and why. These will include hands on (pun intended) training as well as videos and presentations that will give a new perspective on the trip and its meaning.

What can you do now?
  • Get others to go.  Ask you parents, your friends (even at other schools), and anyone else you think would be interested n going.
  • Ask your professors to go on the trip.
  • Volunteer to hang posters etc. around campus.
  • If you have a radio show on WSBU talk up the trip
  • Publicize the event at home--Use the letters to church link for a sample letter.  Try to get it in your local church newsletter!

Top ten reasons to go

  1. It is the right thing to do.  In the end, this is the only thing that matters
  2. It is cheap!  Rather than spending $2000 for a spring break trip that will not live up to expectations, spend about $150 for a week that you will never forget!
  3. Meet new friends.  You will be working, sleeping, and even sleeping with (uh, not like that) people you may not even know.  By the end of the week, you will have new friends that will last a lifetime.  (What a great investment!)
  4. Learn new skills.  (hey you never know when you will need to know how to hang sheet rock, tear down walls, or paint.)
  5. It looks great on a resume.  Talk about a converstaion starter!
  6. Make a difference.  The people we help will never forget our assistance.
  7. It is a life changing experience that will change your outlook on not only the poor and less fortunate, but also the unlucky and those from different parts of the nation.
  8. It will be warmer than it Olean NY!
  9. Your friends will all be there!
  10. It will be fun!
