For Finance Teachers

Why teaching is fun:

I love teaching.  I really do.  Of course I love vacations better, but....  The time in front of a class is really quite fun.  (How else can you be paid to be the class clown?).

I am consistently amazed how great the students are.  Whether it was Penn State, James Madison, or St. Bonaventure.  I really believe if you expect great things from them, they will deliver.  This attitude can be summed up in my teaching philosophy which can be boiled down into having fun but challenging the students.

The time not in front of a class is not so fun.  Endless meetings, correcting, writing letters of recommendation, and the like are not fun.  But on net it is a fun career. (pun intended)

Teaching finance is a time-consuming enterprise!  Add to it the demands for research and there is just not enough time to go around.  That is where FinanceProfessor fits in!  Why should we all reinvent the wheel?  Make use of the internet and share our tips and reduce our busywork!

While by no means an expert, I have included some on my teaching tips that may have some new ideas for you.  I also ask (beseech?) you to participate on the teaching Web Board.  It is a vastly under used resource that will allow us to share good teaching  ideas.  I strongly urge you to take the time to share with the rest of us!  :-)

FinanceProfessor has also aimed to cut your workload by including Downloadable syllabi these are in MS Word format and can be adapted to your class quickly and easily.  Finally, rather than creating a time consuming course packet, why not use the free FinanceProfessor newsletter?  It works great in class and unlike other news sources, it is free!  If you have syllabi that you would like to include or a class web site you want linked, by all means email me and we will put it up.
